![]() Apple isn’t normally prone to carrying around legacy baggage. With this update, I just don’t know what the roadmap is here. ![]() Before today, I was assuming iTunes Remote had run its course and was heading towards extinction. Each of these tread on each other’s toes in different ways, but there’s not one app for everything either. There’s the iTunes Remote app, Apple TV Remote app, and the Apple TV Remote platter in Control Centre. Also, Apple now has three separate places to find ‘media remotes’. Remote controlling your Mac’s iTunes app makes little sense in an era of AirPlay 2 and HomePod speakers. Looking slighter wider, what is the point of this app existing. Don’t get me started on the iPad version. The transport controls don’t expand or shrink in the same way, the font sizes are wrong and Up Next is segregated into a separate modal. The Now Playing screen shadows the iOS 11 Music/Podcasts player UI but it’s only surface level. Simply download the app to your iPhone or iPad, and connect directly to Apple Music, iTunes, or the Apple TV app on your Mac or PC. This would be okay … if the app didn’t try to mimic the modern Music app in other ways. iTunes Remote is the best way to control Apple Music, iTunes, or the Apple TV app from anywhere in your home. The tab bar is still there, the Now Playing interface is in a horizontal navigation stack, and even the Search bar doesn’t use the iOS 11 integrated style. ![]() The structure of the app is still stuck in the past, a lookalike of the Music app pre-Apple Music. In the Music app on your Mac, click the Remote button under Devices in the sidebar, then type the 4-digit code. If it’s not your first time using iTunes Remote: Tap Settings, then tap Add a media library. iTunes Remote reeks of ‘five years old’ flat design. If it’s your first time using iTunes Remote: Tap Connect Manually. It’s a nicer icon than the stock Music app now. It went from a white roundrect with an inscribed circle and harsh geometric triangle to a simpler coloured gradient and neatly-rounded play symbol. I verified this behaviour on 3 different Macs with different iOS devices (iPad. After the latest MacOS 11.4 update (or a recent iOS update, I cant tell), the iTunes Remote App can no longer connect to the Apple Music App - Music Library anymore. Rising from the ashes, iTunes Remote has been updated with a new design and support for the latest device form factors. Try using the iTunes Remote App - it does not work anymore. iTunes 12.7.5 is recommended for use with Remote 4.4. This update also includes an all-new look and feel on iPad and iPhone, in addition to stability and performance improvements. I did finally track down exactly what I was looking for: SoftPerfect Network Scanner: fast and free network scanner. All had pluses and minuses.but none was able to deliver both the scanning and WMI reporting customization I required. I really wanted an "outside-the box" auditing approach, and started looking for an open-source/freeware product I could use commercially and that would be able to plug directly into and extract system data from the Windows Management Instrumentation service on these Windows workstations.Īfter quite a lot of searching, I found three main categories of such a tool first there were lots and lots of IP scanner utilities that would do an IP-range scan and report back live devices, there were also auditing tools that would scan a remote system and report the WMI data to various degrees, and there were full-bore network device auditing suites that would allow server/client based auditing of remote systems on the network. Doubly not good for a site system audit sweep. Said another way, just because I couldn't see it, didn't mean it wasn't there. Nor did it lend itself in report generation to allow me to quickly monitor and compare findings across an ongoing period of audit checks at the site.Īdding to my displeasure was the fact that I could only see and access the systems whose workstation clients were registering in to my network administration containers thus I was neither able to see, nor validate all the potential systems on the network at the location. Copy/paste on a per-device/per-field basis for over two-hundred devices was becoming really annoying. While I was finding success at the results, I was really frustrated with the amount of time it was taking, as well as lack of any meaningful (to my project) reporting capabilities. |
